BAJ offers free jewellery-making sessions in wake of All That Glitters’ success

The British Academy of Jewellery (BAJ) is offering a free jewellery design session to prospective students considering the school.

The announcement of free pendant-making sessions, beginning in June, comes amid the ongoing run of BBC Two’s All That Glitters jewellery design contest and a consequent growing public interest in the trade.

A post from the BAJ, which has premises in London and Birmingham, said that the sessions will give “attendees the chance to try their hand at jewellery making and see what it would be like to study a jewellery diploma”.

Attendees will be able to try out a number of jewellery-making techniques and will take home their own copper pendant at the end of the session which will last just over an hour.

It will afford the opportunity to try annealing with a jeweller’s blowtorch, along with techniques like forming, shaping, filing and cutting the metal pendant, and adding pattern and texture.

The BAJ admissions team will also be present to answer questions about study at the institution.

The first sessions will take place 12 June at BAJ’s London campus at Morley House, with time slots at 11am and 2pm. Sign up at the BAJ website.
