The Goldsmiths’ Centre is offering a lifeline to jewellers, silversmiths and others within the allied trades who want to take time out to develop their skills.
A new ‘Career Catalyst Grant’ scheme is offering £5,000 grants to those who require funding in order to take time out of their daily routine in order to embark on further training.
Applicants must have at least five years of trade experience and must make at least a 10% financial contribution towards the cost of the project.

The successful candidate will also be asked to either teach, speak or mentor with the Goldsmiths’ Centre as a means of giving back to less experienced learners.
Education and partnerships officer, Julia Skilton, said that the project “could be based on innovation or research or outreach, so that they can maximise the work that they’re doing”.
She added: “They are designed as a flexible grant, driven by the maker, so they identify the area of work that they would like to develop.”
The application deadline for the grant is at 5pm on Monday, 19 July. An application form can be downloaded from the Goldsmiths’ Centre website where full details can also be found.
