Rare yellow diamond to headline Sotheby’s NY sale

An exceptional 73.11-carat fancy vivid yellow diamond ring is taking top billing at Sotheby’s New York on June 9 alongside an eclectic collection of signed jewellery, white and fancy colour diamonds, and coloured gemstones.

Named “The Sienna Star,” the ring by acclaimed jeweller Glenn Spiro features a cut-cornered square step-cut fancy vivid yellow diamond weighing over 73 carats. The diamond represents one of the largest fancy vivid yellow diamonds to ever come to auction.

The Gemological Institute of America described the diamond as “a standout item in the extraordinary world of gemstones,” revealed Sotheby’s.

Other highlights of the Magnificent Jewels sale are a fancy intense pink diamond ring as well as a 25.29-carat Kashmir sapphire.

“The sale is headlined by a distinguished private collection sold to benefit a charitable foundation presenting a magnificent Harry Winston emerald and diamond necklace, an exquisite 13.02-carat Burmese ruby ring, as well as a necklace set with diamonds totalling over 168 carats,” the auction house said.

Pieces from the collection of Margaret Jonsson Rogers and the estate of Mary Ethel Weinmann will also be offered alongside a variety of highly covetable pieces from Cartier’s Art Deco period, mid-century classics by French makers such as Cartier, Sterlé and René Boivin, and a curated selection of “Mystery-Set” jewels by Van Cleef & Arpels.
